How to Maintain a Long Beard

One of the hottest men’s fashion trends that has been ruling the runway in recent years, is the fashionable facial hair or beard. Now some of these models really know how to maintain a long beard.

Maintaining a beard needs some work, but is no rocket science, and in the post I will show you the routine you need to follow to maintain a long beard worthy of the catwalk!

After all a long beard adds a mature and sexy look to any attire you rock, and furthermore, in the past few years beards have been on the women’s watch list for characteristics of their ideal man.

However, good looks aren’t something an artist can paint on your face. You’d have to work up to it and growing a beard is not as easy as it seems.

One major issue that has hindered most men from thriving with ta long beard is the fact that the only care they get for their beards is from their barbers.

I will show you that grooming and maintaining your beard is something you can easily do yourself.

Here’s our tips on how to maintain a long beard effectively.

Beard Maintenance Tips

#1. Maximize your beard growth

Full beards are really cool, but it takes a lot of time and patience to achieve that.

In most cases, it takes up to three months to have your beard fully grown, and some steps even have to be taken to get this desired result.

Some of which include;

Take more vitamins and Proteins

This might sound like an advice a doctor would give you, but it’s important to note that your beards are a part of your body, and would need these supplements in order to be healthy and full.

Proteins which have been found to be really important hair supplements can be found in fishes, meats, nuts and eggs.

For vegetarians, you can buy protein supplements from a pharmacy if you don’t consume any of the above listed foods.

Keep your Face clean

Make sure that the face that houses your beards is kept clean to avoid acnes, rashes and other skin diseases.

Exfoliate your facial skin at least once, weekly. This will remove the dead cells and help your beards grow faster.

You can do so by using exfoliate lotions for men, or buy an exfoliate mask which you have to place on your face for about 25minutes. Choose whatever takes your fancy.

Get a face cleanser and wash your face with warm or mild hot water every morning. This keeps your skin clean and makes your beards grow faster.

Avoid getting stressed up too often

You probably have a stressful job or engage in really hectic daily activities, still, you should develop a rest and stress reduction scheme to keep your body healthy.

Sleep more and work out more often.

Those two really help and have been adopted as natural beard maintenance tips that have helped a lot in the past few years.

#2. Use Quality Beard Care Products:

One of the most important beard maintenance tips includes the use of quality beard care products.

This may sound expensive and time taking, but definitely it’s worth it!

Some of the major beard care products are listed below, and in details.

Beard oil and cream:

They are a combination of important ingredients that increase the quality and health of your beard and the skin under your hair.

The two work for the same purposes, which include mainly focusing on adding moisture to your beard so it doesn’t look dry, knotted, frizzed or unkempt.

This also allows for the control of the spilt ends for a fashionable look.

The skin under your beard is as important as the hair you’re taking care of. You don’t want acne or eczema down there…

Beard oils, being one of the most important beard care products, are typically made up of natural skin ingredients including extracts from natural seeds, aloe Vera, castor oils, jojoba etc.

All of these, blended together in to the perfect beard oil and cream in the right proportions can give your beard and skin the dashing look that you so desire, keeping your beards well groomed.

Beard shampoo and conditioners

The above two work hand in hand for perfect grooming of your beard. They are mainly used in washing your beards and keeping them well maintained.

Beard Shampoo is used by applying it to wet beard, massaging the product into the hair, and then rinsing it out while the beard conditioners are applied and massaged into the hair immediately after washing and drying your hair with the beard shampoo.

As much as your beards can give you a better and mature look, they can also cause a huge nightmare for you if you don’t take proper care of them with the appropriate beard care products!

#3. Use of quality Beard care Tools:

The tools we use also go a long way in grooming and maintaining our beards.

The size of our beards, the kind of hair we keep, are the basic things you should consider when choosing the beard care tools you want to purchase.

Some of the beard care tools you should have in your closet include;

Beard combs

Beard combs make sure that there’s a thorough and even distribution of beard oil or beard thought out the area and they are preferable for styling beards.

Make sure that you purchase one that fits the texture and size of your beards to avoid complications including beard loss and damage to the skin.

Beard brushes:

Although, it also ensures an even and thorough distribution or beard oil or beard cream throughout your beard area, its major function is quite different.

Beard brushes, when used on your beard, give a natural, old school look to your beard, which is just what you might need, depending on the occasion, attire or length of your beard, unlike the comb which is a more stylish beard care product.

Beard Trimmers:

I have a full post on beard trimming tips here. But the main points are the following:

* Make sure you purchase high quality beard trimmers for precision and ease of use.

* If you have an oblong or oval face, trim your hairs closer on the underside of your chin but leave a bit

of length on your cheeks.

* If you have a round face, create length by leaving more hair on your chin and less on your cheeks.

* Using a trimmer with quality guard to avoid cuts

* Make a fade with the hair on your neck starting just above your Adam’s apple.

* Trim near the top of your cheeks, if necessary, creating a line parallel to your jaw line.

* Lastly, comb down your moustache and trim hairs that fall below your lip line, using scissors or a trimmer
