Your chest is probably the easiest body part to shave. You’ve got a nice open area where you can easily reach every part. All you need to do is avoid cutting off your nipples (Ouch!!)
So the steps for shaving your chest area are as follows;
Step 1: Trim (if necessary).

If you shave often then you don’t generally have to use a trimmer, but if you haven’t shaved for a while and you’ve got a nice bush of hair on your chest, then you should first trim it down before you head for the razor.
There are plenty of body hair trimmers out there so go for your favorite choice. My personal favorite is the Philips Norelco Multigroomer.
When trimming your chest you should always start from the outside and move inwards.
Step 2: Wet the Hair
Once its trimmed down, step into the shower and wet your chest hair.
Step 3: Apply Shaving Gel
Before starting the shave, it’s definitely important to get some type of shave gel on the area you’re about to shave because if you don’t apply anything the hair will be harder to cut.
Apart from that, the wet hair tends to stick a little bit and you don’t want that. You want a nice, clean, smooth shave.
Take a scoop of of shaving gel in the palm of your hand and start lathering from the middle going outwards to both sides of the chest until you get all the area you’re about to shave completely covered.
Step 4: Shave with a razor
Not just any regular razor however. You should shave with a razor that’s designed specifically for shaving the body.
The Philips Norelco, is one of the best examples of such razors. They are tailored for body grooming and their U-shaped head allows easy maneuvering for a lot of different angles.
- Bi-directional trimmer seamlessly cuts hair in both directions
- Integrated skin protector guards your skin while you trim
- 1/8" comb comfortably trims longer hair
Now, grab your razor and before you start shaving raise your chest up a little bit and start from the bottom of the chest.
Leave the sensitive areas for last.
I don’t think I actually have to point this out, but just to avoid any major disasters I’m going to say it. ‘It’s really important not to shave over your nipples’.
That’s why I suggest to raise the chest a little bit higher so that you can shave underneath the nipples. It’s not a bad idea to cover your nipple to keep from cutting yourself.
When shaving the middle of your chest, hold one pec over to the side and start from the middle, slowly moving to the outside. It’s important to apply a little bit of pressure, but not too much pressure.
Obviously don’t forget to rinse off the blade with warm water in between shaves.
Step 5: Apply Moisturizer
To finish off it’s definitely important to moisturize so as to calm and comfort the skin.
Now watch the following clip from Gillette which shows you the exact step by step process I mentioned above.
That’s it. This is exactly how you shave your chest. Shaving your chest will give you a clean feeling and more importantly, you can now show off those pecs which you worked so hard for at the gym!
